The surroundings of the Tiber Valley

" You could feel a great pleasure to see this region from the top of packages: you believe, in fact, to see not a territory, but a painting with incredible mastery: From so abundant variety, so happy provision, the eyes, wherever it their, derive pleasure... " Pliny the Younger  (PLINIO IL GIOVANE)

"Those werw my memories, but perhaps I did confusion between the nay personal and the Tiber Valley painted by Piero della Francesca" - L. GARDINER

Imagine to close your eyes and get in one of the background scenery of  works by Piero della Francesca, who was native in Sansepolcro, and you enter in a palette of thousands of different shades of green, rolling hills, medieval villages, expanses of olive groves and vineyards, poppies, sunflowers, an uncontaminated and people simple, with a smile on my lips: the Valtiberina, called also "Museum Valley".

A stay in LA CASA CHE SOGNA  gives you the possibility of an unforgettable holiday among the naturalistic beauties and architecture of Valtiberina of Tuscany and Umbria and dive in a territory rich of craft traditions and of wine-gastronomic products of high quality.

The Tiber valley is the first section of the valley of the river Tiber, the main river Italy Central, from which takes its name. The valley extends to the source of the river on Monte Fumaiolo until village of Montecastelli, south of town of Castello, growing into a diverse set of landscapes.

Delimited by the Catenaria alp in the north-west, by the Alpe della Luna (Alp of the moon)  in the north-east and by the hilly chain of Preappennino in the west, the valley contains two of the pearls of Umbrian and Tuscan history and architecture: Sansepolcro and Città di Castello.

In addition to Sansepolcro, the birthplace of Piero della Francesca, and Città di Castello, with one of most beautiful picture galleries of Umbria (Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria), you can visit in the immediate vicinity some of the most beautiful villages in Italy, like Citerna, Anghiari and Montone.

The Valtiberina (Tiber Valley), thanks to its privileged location in Toscana, allows to reach very quickly the most famous cities of art (Arezzo, Siena and Florence) and other three beautiful regions of central Italy:

  • Emilia Romagna, through the crossing of Viamaggio, which leads to Rimini and Riccione, or through the e45
  • Marche with the beautiful Urbino, homeland of the famous painter Raphael, through the step of Bocca Trabaria and Fano, on the coast, through the crossing of Bocca Serraiola
  • Umbria, whose border is located a few minutes from Sansepolcro, with the beautiful city of Perugia,   Assisi, Gubbio

And if the choice will seem too wide we will be happy to create for you special itineraries that take into account your interests and of the time you have.
